Musical Theater has always been an integral part of Camp Encore/Coda’s program with a Lower Camp and Upper Camp production presented on each parents day for a total of four productions each summer. Participation in musical theater is open to all campers in their respective age groups with the exception of those in the instrumental conservatory program. We also offer a Broadway class for those campers who are eager to dedicate more time to their passion for theater.
For campers who wish to focus on theater arts, options include: improvisation, costume and set design (campers will help create costumes and sets for the theatrical productions), choreography and dance, and an additional non-musical theater presentation of either a scene or act from a play. Campers can write and perform their own scenes as well! There will also be an option for a theater workshop class covering topics such as: audition techniques, character development, blocking, movement, diction and directing.
Campers opting to focus on theater will be expected to take private lessons on one or two instruments/voice of their choice, and participate in at least one large instrumental or vocal ensemble, as well as in the Musical Theater production for their age group.
